Topics are self-guided, and can be used either as standalone learning experiences, or to complement in-person sessions. Together, Topics form the building-block architecture that structures a course.
Topic Setup
Create a Topic by opening a course and selecting + New Topic.
From here, you can name your Topic, select its visibility, place it in a Category within your course, and assign your Topic a due date.
If you would like to change your Topic’s visibility, use the Eye and Lock icons in the top left corner of the Topic card.
To add a Preview Image to your Topic, click the three dots in the top right corner of the Topic card and select Add Preview Image.
This image will show up at the top of the Topic when your students open it in the mobile app.
Adding Material to a Topic
To build the content of a Topic, open up the Topic and click the + button.
You can add five things to a Topic: Narrative, Materials, Web Links, and Prompts.
Narrative
Narrative is rich text. Use Narrative to set up the materials in the Topic, and provide additional context and guidance.
When you create your Narrative, you can add a title which will be displayed to your students.
Use the top bar of the editor window to format your Narrative and embed images.
Materials
Materials include EPUBs, PDFs, Images, or Videos. These are the centerpiece of your course Topics. You can add any Material that’s in your Materials Library.
For detailed information about editing course material, check out this article.
Web Links
You can add any web link to your course by selecting Link from the + Add menu.
Prompts
Add Prompts to your Topic to increase your learners’ engagement with the course material. There are three types of Prompts: Short Answer, Quick Poll, and File Upload. For more detailed information on Prompts, check out this article.
Moving items between Topics
If you want to move an item from one Topic to another, click the top right corner of the item and select Move to a Different Topic. Then select the Topic you’d like to move the item to.
The item will move from its place to the bottom of the destination Topic. All student activity with the item will be preserved.
Previewing your Topics
You can preview your Topics at any time. Click in to the Topic you’d like to preview. Click the three dots in the top-right corner of the Topic Header. Then select Preview from the drop-down.
This will open up the course in Honor Learn, showing you the complete student experience of your course.
